A lighting fixture reflector is the shaped interior surface or component of a luminaire that redirects light from a lamp or LED source toward a target area. Its purpose is to improve optical efficiency, control beam spread, reduce glare, and shape the appearance of the emitted light.

Common reflector forms include parabolic, elliptical, faceted, conical, and asymmetric designs. Parabolic reflectors are often used for directional beams, while faceted reflectors help smooth beam distribution and reduce visible hot spots. Asymmetric reflectors are frequently used in wall-wash, street, and area lighting applications.

Reflectors are typically made from polished aluminum, anodized aluminum, metallized plastic, or coated steel. The surface finish strongly affects performance: a mirror-like specular finish produces tighter beam control, while a matte or diffuse finish creates softer light distribution.

Key considerations when selecting or designing a reflector include the light source size, desired beam angle, fixture depth, thermal performance, glare control, maintenance needs, and environmental conditions. In LED fixtures, the reflector often works together with lenses or diffusers to achieve the final optical pattern.
